Ski and Shop Local!

It’s been an up-and-down season as far as snowfall goes. Actually, mostly down. Luckily, we just received a nice dump of fresh powder to cover all those ski trails up at Sugarbush Resort, Mad River Glen, as well as Blueberry Lake and Ole’s Nordic ski centers. However, with less snow falling throughout the northeast, the Mad River Valley has seen less winter tourism than normal. This affects all businesses throughout the Valley, not just the ski resorts.
What can you do to help? BUY LOCAL! All of the local restaurants and retail stores rely heavily on tourists to make it through this long (not so cold) winter. Every dollar you spend locally gets reinvested into the local economy. On the contrary, every dollar you spend online sends money to someone, or some company far, far away. Plus, the shipping for those individual items leaves a nasty ecological footprint from planes, trains, and delivery trucks.
The Mad River Valley has so many great locally owned shops that offer an amazing variety of items, some made right here in Vermont, and some carefully curated from specialty vendors around the country and world. There’s local artisanal foods, locally crafted artwork, and jewelry. Some shops have been open for many years, and we are also lucky to have some new retailers to add variety and options. There’s something for everyone!
